We are so thankful to Mary Knight for presenting our November Educational Series!

Overall Purpose

This presentation will provide an overview of one of these evidence-based therapies, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and introduce The Life Worth Living Project, an organization whose vision is to make DBT accessible and affordable to all who need it in our community.

The World Health Organization estimates that nearly 1 million people die by suicide annually. Furthermore, over 40% of individuals who attempt suicide do not receive mental healthcare, and half of those who do report that treatment doesn’t meet their needs (Behavioral Tech Institute, 2019). Significant progress has been made over the last three decades in evidence-based treatments for individuals at risk for suicidal behavior. However, the availability and affordability of these treatments remain a widespread problem. According to Mental Health America 2024 data, South Carolina ranks 49th out of 50 states in the availability of mental healthcare for its residents.
