MHA-Spartanburg is proud to celebrate one of our own – board member Bailie – whose artwork will be on display in Transcendence, a new exhibition at the Spartanburg Art Museum. Running from April 17 through June 30, 2025, the exhibition invites viewers to reflect on the spiritual, mental, and physical struggles of humankind.

Transcendence features the work of Bailie, nationally recognized artist David Linn, and selections from SAM’s permanent collection. Among the featured pieces is Bailie’s 2021 sculpture Depression, crafted in raku clay. The work offers a contemplative visual representation aligned with the exhibit’s themes of emotional and existential exploration.
The opening reception will take place on Thursday, April 17, from 5 to 8 PM. It’s free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served. General admission to the Spartanburg Art Museum is always free.
Throughout the duration of the exhibition, MHA-Spartanburg will have mental health resources available at the museum for anyone seeking more information or support. We’re grateful to partner with the Spartanburg Art Museum to ensure that conversations sparked by the exhibit can connect visitors with tangible tools for mental wellness.
We’re honored to see Bailie’s commitment to mental health advocacy represented not only through leadership but through artistic expression.

Opening night of Transcendence at the Spartanburg Art Museum was a meaningful and moving experience. Bailie – artist, advocate, and MHA-Spartanburg board member – walked us through his work, sharing personal stories that brought even more depth to the pieces on display. His openness about navigating mental health challenges and finding support through therapy truly resonated.
We also loved connecting with folks from Bloom Upstate Inc. ( Executive Director, Alane Swain, with Toya Moore, Coordinator of Family and Therapy Services
) and Walt’s Waltz!
The exhibit runs through June 28, and we’ll be back at the museum on May 15 from 5–8pm for another special night during Mental Health Month. Hope to see you there! #MentalHealthAwareness#Transcendence#artwork#MHASpartanburg#reducethestigma
